Host a Mid-Winter Beach Party

You don’t need sand, sun or the surf to host a fun and successful beach party. Consider breaking up the winter doldrums by recreating summer fun in the middle of January or February. Send out invitations after the holidays are over and everyone will be looking forward to your fun event. Beach parties can be especially fun when the snow is piled up all around and the temperatures are low. Break out a summery outfit, or even your bathing suit and let the luau begin!

Think summer when planning your winter party and you will come up with great ideas for beach games and activities. Shop for luau party supplies and make sure you have plenty of summer music, like the Beach Boys, playing throughout the party. Put on your sunglasses and blow up some beach balls. Hang posters of Hawaii and the Caribbean to set the mood, and serve summertime drinks with festive umbrellas in them.

A surfboard can serve as a table for party foods and coolers can supply refreshing beverages for the “beach”. Use colorful beach towels instead of tablecloths. The beach or luau theme can be enhanced by ordering inexpensive grass skirts and Hawaiian leis for your guests from discount party suppliers. Party food can be simple fare, like burgers and hot dogs. Dessert can be Popsicles or ice cream bars.

Now We’re Having Fun

The truly ambitious winter beach parties will feature group party games that imitate beach volleyball or Frisbee. Less risky alternatives to your snowy luau may include a limbo contest or bikini competition. Prizes can be awarded for best and worst mid-winter tans, loudest Hawaiian shirt, and most creative beach wear. Successful beach parties don’t have to wait until summer – start the thaw in January and your friends will warm up to the idea pretty fast.
