Finding Birthday Cake Ideas for Kids

One of the highlights of a birthday party for kids, from the first birthday onwards, is the birthday cake. Whether you are throwing a party with a theme or not, birthday cake ideas for kids are almost infinite. Sometimes parents are lucky (or in some cases, unlucky!) enough to have children who are happy to nominate what type of cake they want for their birthday. But even if your kid answers 'whatever' when you ask what they want for their cake this birthday, there are many sources of ideas for the perfect birthday cake.

If you are having a theme for your birthday party, the cake should reflect the ideas behind that theme. If you dread the thought of attempting to make a cake that represents your kids favorite cartoon character, don’t forget that most bakeries have been asked to make some pretty strange party cakes before. If you are determined to make the birthday cake yourself, you can simply ice the cake in the colors that reflect your theme, or put figurines on top. If you have bought birthday party decorations that reflect your theme, consider attaching one, like a party balloon, to the birthday cake; though remember to remove it before lighting the candles!

If you are not having party themes, that is no reason to not be inventive with your kids birthday cake. There are many books and internet sites that have both birthday cake ideas and instructions on how to make these fantastic birthday cakes.

For many of us, one of the most memorable things about our birthdays when we were kids was the cakes we had. When the memories of the balloons and presents have faded, usually we can still remember that special birthday cake with candles on top.
