Choosing the Right Birthday Party DecorationsWhen throwing any party, especially a birthday party, one of the first things to think about is how to decorate. Birthday party decorations set the mood and tone for the party, and just a few small touches can help make a party unique. While any party for a child is a treat, one very special one is the child’s first birthday. Yet it can be difficult to plan because of the child’s age and because it is a first time for new parents too. First birthday ideas don’t always come easily, because it isn’t like an older child’s birthday party. Decorating for Infants and ToddlersClear the room for new walkers and crawlers! Have lots of soft pillows for parents to sit on and kids to plop down onto. Keep your strictly decorative decorations high: streamers on the ceiling fan blades or around the window frames, for example. Remember not to use small, chokeable items as decorations for this age. Helium balloons are always popular. Tying them to the back of a chair so the strings won’t be tangled or the balloons popped is a good idea. Be sure to have plenty so everyone gets to take one home. Try also to make your party decorations fun for the kids. Small children like bright, colorful things to look at, hold, pull on, and explore with. Try to make these part of your decorations, with a lot of different textures too. Be creative with the party supplies. Have bright foil letters that spell “Happy 1st Birthday!” but make sure they can be touched and played with later. Dangle plastic party cups from doorways to be batted at and played with. Party streamers tied to chair legs and table legs create a festive atmosphere and give kids something to touch and look at on their level. The kids invitations themselves are fun to hold and explore, hand out extras. Don’t try to keep it neat, make it fun! Related Articles
