Let Your Birthday Party Favors Do Double Duty

Your daughter’s birthday party is just two weeks away and you haven’t decided what to give as birthday party favors. Do her friends really need any more stickers or plastic trinkets?

When planning a kids birthday party, consider choosing party favors that are also part of the party itself. Have the children make a simple craft or play a game that involves the party favor.

Several hobby, craft and party supply web sites offer simple craft kits that come in sets of four or eight. Some of these fun kits use foam to create jewelry, picture frames or other items. If you choose the picture frame option, take a snap shot of each party guest with the birthday boy or girl. Your child can send the birthday party pictures to the party guests along with thank you notes.

Games and Entertainment Ideas

You also might link the party favor to the entertainment. Do you have a friend who can juggle or do magic tricks? Have him come and teach the kids a simple trick. Give each child the props for the trick to take home as a favor. It might be a deck of cards or a penny with a bandana.

You can play also play games that relates to the party favor. Give each child his own Nerf ball or small football. Use the balls to play several party games. You might want to have each child put his name on his ball so it won’t get lost during all of the fun.

Party favors are an important part of children’s birthdays. The favors play three important roles in the celebration:

  • They help the birthday child develop the character qualities of both giving and gratitude.
  • They give the party guests something to open and play with. This is important especially for young party guests.
  • As we learned above, the favors can be the party entertainment.
