Three Simple Rules for Kids Birthday PartiesIt’s easy for parents to get carried away when planning kids birthday parties. If you keep three simple party planning tips in mind everyone will enjoy the whole birthday party process a lot more. The three tips are these: keep it short, keep it small and keep it simple. These rules are especially helpful when planning parties for toddlers. Below we outline how these guidelines apply to toddler birthday party ideas. Keep It ShortRemember that toddlers have very short attention spans. They also are used to taking naps. Plan the party at a time of day when the birthday child and her friends will be at their best. Keep the party to one hour or less for children three and younger. A good guideline to follow is 20 minutes for each year of age. A birthday party for a two-year-old should last about 40 minutes. Allow lots of flexible time for the kids to just play. Keep It SmallToddlers can be overwhelmed in a crowd. Many parents use the guideline of keeping the number of party guests equal to the child’s age. This works well for young children. If your child is turning three, invite three friends. If you must invite lots of children, consider having two or even three small birthday parties rather than one big bash. Keep It SimpleToddlers won’t be able to concentrate on lots of even fun party games or activities. They may not be able to sit still and open presents (even their own). Don’t push things. Follow the kid’s lead. If they are having a blast playing duck duck goose and don’t want to open birthday gifts, why stop the fun? Keep the birthday party food simple enough that the toddlers can take it home if they don’t get around to eating it during the party. Cupcakes and juice boxes are good choices. Related Articles
