New Years Eve Party One Last Fling

Eat, drink and break any remaining resolutions can be the theme for your next New Years Eve party. Treat your New Years Eve party like Mardi Gras or a bachelor party—make it a great last fling.

Pull out all the stops for New Years Eve decorations. If you’re one who does your party planning far in advance, save every day from your tear-off office calendar. Decorate for the party by hanging the pages from the past year on the walls and from strings attached to the ceiling.

Use lots of balloons for party decorations. Turn one entire wall into a balloon banner that has the number of the New Year (’06 or 2006, for example). Order some party balloons with the date of the current year (you could have bought these on clearance last January 2nd) and some with the date of New Year. At midnight, burst the old year’s balloons.

Get Rid of those Resolutions

To get the New Years party started, ask each guest to write down all of last year’s resolutions and place the list in a basket. (A trash basket might be appropriate.) During the party, burn or shred the broken New Years resolutions. If you go the shredding route, use the remains for confetti when party guests ring in the New Year.

Also ask each guest to write down one thing they’d like to do before the year is over. See if you can help a few guests achieve those goals before the New Year begins.

To add fun and flavor to the final fling, make the evening a casino party, a luau or even a toga party. Encourage guests to dress for the occasion. Use a mixture of decorations that fit those party themes and New Years decorations. For the toga party, use Greek pillars (you can rent these) that hold a “Happy New Year” banner. At the casino party, decorate with banners that read, “Welcome Lucky 2006.” For party favors, hand out buttons that say, “I got lucky (already) in 2006,” or “This is my lucky year.”
