Pinatas Are Not Just for KidsStringing up pinatas and giving them a good whack has long been a fun party game for kids. But why should junior have all the fun? String up a pinata at a retirement party, 50th birthday party or bridal shower. A pinata is a colorful papier-mache creation that is filled with candy and party favors. You can find a pinata in a shape that will fit your party theme wherever party supplies are sold. If your party requires something unique, you can make your own pinata. When planning a party for adults, fill the pinata with appropriate goodies and favors. For a bridal shower, fill a wedding bell-shaped pinata with small kitchen gadgets, packages of bath salts and, of course, chocolate. A pinata at a retirement party can be lots of fun. Check at party supply stores for a pinata that relates to the honoree’s career or her retirement plans. If the guest of honor is headed for life on the golf course, fill a golf ball-shaped pinata with golf tees, Wiffle Balls (real golf balls are probably NOT a good idea), small packages of antacids and aspirin. For an adult party, make hitting the pinata a little more challenging. Hang the pinata seven feet or higher from a rope that can be raised and lowered. Choose your pinata weapon based on the party theme. It can be anything from a golf club, to a baseball bat (even a plastic one) to a kitchen broom. Blindfold the guest of honor and let him take a few whacks at the pinata. Have someone raise and lower the pinata as guests take their swings. Give each party guest a turn. Make the party even more fun by playing music (“Macho Man,” for example) and taking friendly bets on which party guest will break the pinata. Don’t forget to catch all the pinata action on video to watch later in the party.
