Hit the Beach for a Wild Theme Party

No matter what the occasion for celebrating, take your next theme party to the beach. You can have a birthday party, retirement celebration, wedding shower or even a Valentine’s Day party at a real or virtual beach.

A beach party lends itself to all kinds of fun party games and decorating ideas. If going to a real beach is out of the question, create your own party beach. Begin with sand. If you have wooden or concrete floors, dump on real sand and let your party guest wiggle their toes in it.

If you’re not quite ready to cover the entire floor, fill a plastic wading pool with sand. Party guests can dig in this sand and even build sand castles. This is great entertainment for a child’s birthday party.

Move all of the traditional furniture out of the way for the beach bash. Use lawn and beach chairs and even beach towels. Make a table by laying a surfboard across sawhorses. Use beach umbrellas, beach balls, sand pails, sunglasses and even bottles of sunscreen for party decorations. Visit your travel agency and ask for posters of beaches to put on the walls.

Have Your Guests Dress the Part

Ask party guests to wear beach attire. Turn up the heat so no one will be cold in board shorts or a bathing suit. Play games related to the sun-and-fun theme. Try beach blanket bingo (regular bingo just played while lounging on blankets or beach towels) and games played with beach balls.

For beach theme food, use your grill or fireplace to cook hotdogs and roast marshmallows. If grilling is not an option, fill picnic baskets and coolers with food and beverages you might take to the beach. Have these containers spread around the room so party guests can help themselves.

While your guests are eating and playing in the sand, have old beach movies showing on the TV. Don’t forget to have everyone get up and dance when the actors break into song.
